I'll be brief and say in addition to everything good said about this movie (not to mention some of the amazingly well-acted roles such as The Joker and Harvey Dent) the thing that makes it work so well is that it takes what is best of the Batman storyline and twists it slightly; not enough to ruin it but make it just right to be acceptable from a comic standpoint and believable from a movie standpoint. Dent's transformation, although not entirely accurate, was acceptable and certainly done in dramatic fashion to keep you emotionally attached. The Dark Knight isn't just a great comic-based movie. it's a great movie overall.
